Andrew Frey, a 7th grader from Memorial Jr. High School, is the winner of the You Want Me CRAZY video contest, hosted by Cleveland band, Attack Cat, Radio 92.3FM and Best Buy® in Mayfield Heights. Attack Cat band members include the former Relient K drummer Dave Douglas and local songstress, Rachel Hoskins. The duo is gaining national recognition for their energy-infused pop/rock music with a story-telling bent.
The contest premise was to create a video using Attack Cat's new single "You Want Me Crazy” in a video upload on youtube. Those entering were encouraged to use their imagination and get crazy with a video whether it be a music video, a sing-a-long, a dog dancing or etc. so long as the video was G-rated!
The video created by winning entrant, Andrew Frey used stop motion animation, utilizing skills he learned at a Tech Camp last summer. By using Stikfas™ (a guy playing guitar and a girl playing a keyboard), he recreated the look of Attack Cat then added gogos ™Crazy Bones for additional interest. He worked about an hour a day for three weeks to create the stop-motion music video. See the video here: www.attackcatband.com/attack-cat-videos.
After the CRAZY video contest submissions were posted on line (submitted from Ohio, Minnesota, Arizona, Canada and others), videos were narrowed down to three finalists and then the decision makers from Attack Cat, Radio 92.3FM Cleveland and Best Buy® determined the winner.
Frey was interviewed by Pat “The Producer” on the Radio 92.3FM Inner Sanctum show on Sunday the 31st. Asked how he came up with the idea, Frey replied, “I thought everyone else would be doing videos with people running around being crazy so I decided to use more structure”.
In his final question, “What do you want to do as a career?’ Frey replied, “I want to be a world famous cartoonist, traveling all over the world to see other cartoonists and increasing my skill.”
