Sunview Teachers Use Smartboards to Connect with Students in Chardon
Third graders in Kim Erwin's class at Sunview and Brian Buemi's class in Chardon are pen pals. Using the Instant Conferencing tool that is installed on their Smartboards, the teachers were able to link their Smartboards with two other third grade classrooms - Michelle Burkholder's class from Sunview and Leigh Ann Ferguson's class from Chardon - to teach a graphing lesson TOGETHER!Each student inserted data into a tally chart, detailing whether or not they were wearing jeans. After collecting all four classes' data, the students created a bar graph, a pictograph and a pie chart, comparing this data from all four classrooms. The students loved comparing the data from the different classrooms and using the Instant Conferencing tool. The teachers plan to do this once a week until the end of the year.
