PTA Reflections Contest - Heroes Around Me

What is Reflections?

The Ohio PTA, through the National PTA, holds am annual cultural arts program, Reflections. Children in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit original works of art in any of six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. The Reflections program allows PTAs throughout the state to recognize children for their creativity as they reflect on the yearly theme. Teachers, parents, children and community can get involved in enhancing arts education through the Reflections program. The Reflections program is one of the best examples of the PTA’s ability to bring out the best in our youth. PTA strongly supports education in the arts. It is about creating educational excitement and involvement within our schools between parents, teachers and our kids.

Please contact Beryl Horrigan at [email protected] to process any entries.

Sunview Celebrates International Walk to School Month

October is International Walk to School (WTS) Month and Sunview is participating on October 3rd!

The WTS movement started in 2001 with three underlying goals:

  • 1.      Pedestrian Safety and Improved Streets – with safe school walking routes for kids and an awareness of pedestrian safety.
  • 2.      Healthier Habits – by promoting an active lifestyle and healthy eating choices.
  • 3.      Cleaner Air and Environment – through less dependence on cars and a greater focus on the environment, pollution, litter and recycling.

How will Sunview Elementary participate?

Walk to School

Wednesday, October 3, students and their family members will meet at the Brainard Park parking lots at 7:55 a.m. for a short walk to school; rain or shine. Local government and school board officials will be invited to participate. All student participants will receive a prize promoting an active lifestyle at the end.

Poster Contest

Students can participate in a poster contest to bring awareness to the 3 WTS goals. Posters will be judged by Mrs. Taylor on message, creativity, and promotion of one or more of the WTS goals, and can be carried on the Walk to School. Winning posters will be displayed in a prominent location.

Please join us!

We would love for everyone who can to join us in walking to school! In the past, the event has been featured in the Sun press and on the news! We are hoping for a record-breaking crowd.
