I write to share my thanks with all of you. May
has arrived, and slowly we are moving forward through the coronavirus pandemic.
We remain unified and SEL Strong! The results from Issue 32 affirms the support
the SEL communities have for our schools.
We are grateful for your support and will continue to work hard to
maintain your trust and faith in our school district.
In light of these difficult times, which have
changed every aspect of our daily lives, there is a lot of good that has grown
from this experience. Our teachers, students and families have created
inspiring videos about how we are apart, yet remain strong together. Our
combined efforts have resulted in incredible work and creative ways to advance
learning this school year. I commend each and every one of you. Our Arc parents
have become more of an educational partner in helping our children with online
lessons, communicating with teachers and administrators as well as providing
encouragement and support while adjusting to a tremendous change in their daily
lives.
End of the Year
Calendar
As we wind down the school year we must keep in
mind the orders of Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health, that
all Ohio schools, facilities and public school events remain closed. We must
also continue to adhere to the protocol to limit gatherings to no more than 10
people, while keeping the 6-feet minimum social distancing guidelines in place.
With these restrictions in place, we look to
strike a balance between continued learning, fun activities, and opportunities
of celebration for students and families during the month of May! There is time
left in our school year to make new memories. We have developed an end of the school year instructional timeline to allow for these
opportunities to happen. See End of Year Timeline. Your child’s building principal will be communicating your specific school activities they have planned as well as the end of the year school closing procedures.
Grading Policy and Considerations
During this unprecedented time, school districts have had to review district grading policies and practices. The attached two documents outline the district’s priorities and expectations. Our overall focus for our grading policies is not to harm any child.

Moving Forward
In regards to how SEL School will function this coming fall, we all are quite anxious to hear “next steps” and recommendations from Governor DeWine and The Ohio Department of Education. We learn more every day. We plan to send surveys to our teachers, students, and families that will help provide us feedback as we devise our plans moving forward.
On a
last note, and perhaps the most important, our students have been working hard
and putting in a lot of time and effort to continue learning. This unforeseen
and in some cases unimaginable situation has been notably challenging and
perhaps frustrating for some, but so many of you have gone above and beyond
what is expected! We THANK YOU for that!
If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me or your child’s building principal. Again, we appreciate your ongoing support of our Arcs and the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools.
Sincerely,
Dr.
Linda N. Reid
