Arcs Qualify for Regionals
The Boys and Girls Track program finished off a successful week at the District Tournament with five Arcs qualifying individually and a relay for this week’s OHSAA Regional meet at Austintown Fitch. Junior Jasmyn Allen continued her winning ways in the 100 Hurdles, winning with a time of 14.70, lowering her school record. She has the best time entering regional competition. Allen qualified in 2016 for the regional competition as well, though she didn’t qualify for finals. Joining her will be senior teammate Raven Drake, who missed regionals last year, she advanced this year in the 300 hurdles, finishing fourth at Mayfield with a time of 49.10.
Junior Quentin Woodall continued his strong hurdles season as well, qualifying in the 100 and 300 Hurdles. Woodall finished second in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.62, narrowly missing the school record 14.4, though it’s a Top 5 time in school history. He also finished second in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 39.95. He will be joined fellow junior Marcus Brown, who qualified in the 400 Dash, he finished in fourth place with a time of 51.78. Another first timer to regionals will be sophomore Andre Franks who used a personal-best jump of 21-7 to finish fourth and qualifying him for Austintown.
The final event of the night at Mayfield was the Boys 4x400, last year the boys suffered the agony of finishing fifth and missing regionals. Not the case in 2017, the team of Brown, Ruel Greenwood, Lloyd McFarquhar, and Keith Pearson, clinched a spot with a fourth-place finish in a time of 3:33.33.
The athletes will continue workouts Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Austintown-Fitch on Wednesday for preliminaries in running events. Friday night will be finals in all running events.
