School Threat Assessment Training

admin

Earlier this week, the SEL Schools took the time to participate in Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Training, as a proactive method to understanding a variety of scenarios and responses to circumstances of threats, making threat assessments and critical circumstances. Held offsite to maximize the preparatory experience, SEL School district personnel members received training in the threat assessment decision-making tree, how to file threat reports and evaluate assessment scenarios, tips for conducting interviews, and knowing the proper time for advanced intervention. The overall presentation was delivered in part by Dr. Dewey G. Cornell, who is an expert renowned for his extensive research and training in youth violence and security. The training on behalf of the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools is aligned with the Ohio General Assembly’s passage of House Bill 123, also known as the “Safety and Violence Education Students (S.A.V.E.S.) Act." The state legislation calls for a comprehensive approach to school safety involving training, meeting the physical and emotional needs and safety of students and educators, and working in conjunction with various statewide educational agencies. Making proper threat assessments helps to create a safer environment for all and is part of the SEL Schools’ firsthand approach to promoting safety and security.
