Brush Students Benefit From Literacy Grant

A variety of sophomores, juniors, and seniors participated in writing workshops led by Amy Hughes and Jody Podl of Lake Erie Ink. LEI is a non-profit that provides creative expression opportunities and academic support to youth in the Greater Cleveland community. Through the Finding Joy in Literacy grant provided by The Eva L. and Joseph M. Bruening Foundation, LEI writing instructors taught eight classes with the goal of students having fun through playing with words and a variety of genres such as Zip Odes, micro fiction, and Identity Poems. Students learned to engage respectfully with each other as writers, and to see writing not just as something they have to do, but as something they enjoy doing. At the end of the program, each student received an anthology with their favorite works published. The cover of the anthology was designed by Dylan Smith.
