STEM Learning at Sunview

Stem at Sunview

Students at Sunview Elementary have been building their problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and other important skills through engaging activities in Miss Young’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) classroom. First and second grade students were tasked with saving “Sam” the gummy worm using a limited number of materials. Working together as a team, students had to retrieve Sam’s life preserver (a gummy lifesaver) from underneath his overturned boat (plastic cup) and place it on Sam using the provided materials. During another STEM class activity, third grade students performed an investigation using the scientific process. The goal was to figure out which liquid would dissolve candy corn the fastest and record the results on their worksheets. By providing hands-on learning experiences, the STEM activities are helping students develop a deeper understanding of STEM-based concepts while promoting creativity and other important skills.
