Students Create Arcs Podcasts
arc
Podcasting has become one of the most popular ways for individuals to learn new information. From sports and entertainment to news and cooking, podcasts cover a wide range of topics. Students in grades 6-8 participating in the STEP UP gifted student program had the exciting opportunity to create their own ‘Arcs Podcasts’ as part of a recent project-based learning activity. Gifted Intervention Specialist Mrs. Kacie Abate introduced the activity after conducting research to identify a unique and engaging project for students to complete during remote learning. From a topical standpoint, students were asked to share how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected them individually, their families, and the community they live in. Students were allowed to cover a different topic of which they expressed a passionate interest. In addition to providing students the opportunity for individual expression, the podcast project enabled them to experiment with 21st century learning competencies and practice their communication skills. Mrs. Abate was extremely proud of the students’ creative and original work. Each podcast serves as a historical artifact capturing each students’ thoughts, emotions, and personal growth during these unprecedented times. The ‘Arcs Podcasts’, including an introductory podcast by Mrs. Abate, are available for listening online here. Congratulations to all participating students in the STEP UP gifted program for a job well done!
