6th Grade Scientists Perform Paper Experiment
science
6th grade scientists under the guidance of Greenview Middle School Science Teacher Ms. Paula Morgarecently conducted experiments to test the strength of various paper products using the scientific method! The learning activity was part of Ms. Morgan’s Scientific Investigation Unit and covered various grade level Science Standards, including designing and conducting a scientific investigation, identifying questions that can be answered through the investigation, analyzing and interpreting data, thinking critically and logically to connect evidence and explanations, and communicating the results. To test their hypothesis, students had to separately secure a sheet of three different types of paper, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and printer paper, to the top of a jar or cup using a rubber band. Students then wet each paper product with a tablespoon of water and placed weighted objects such as pennies or magnets on each paper product until it broke. Results from each paper experiment were recorded in a table or graph and explained in a written conclusion. Students shared each step of their science project using a slide show template created and modeled by Ms. Morgan, with students inserting all design elements such as photos, videos, data, and text.

Our 6th grade scientists did a fantastic job on their scientific investigations and had a blast in the process. The SEL Schools are proud of their efforts and congratulate them on a job well done!
