Congratulations to Memorial Junior High School Intervention Specialist Mr. Brian Bruce who was a featured presenter at the Ohio Middle Level Association State Conference held from May 6th-7th at the Kalahari Conference Center in Sandusky, OH. Dominick Kaple, Assistant Superintendent – Academics, Technology, and Innovation, encouraged Mr. Bruce to apply to speak at the OMLA Conference and provided a recommendation on his behalf as a show of support for Mr. Bruce’s educational philosophy and passion for making a difference in the lives of students. Mr. Bruce was joined at the conference by Memorial Principal Matthew Bryan and Assistant Principal David Capretta

In a powerful presentation titled “One Life to Love”, Mr. Bruce addressed educators from across the state of Ohio on the importance of developing relationships with students and addressing their social-emotional needs within the school setting. Mr. Bruce also shared personal experiences growing up and currently as a teacher at Memorial Junior High School to demonstrate how giving students daily encouragement and support can set them on a path where they can grow and thrive as individuals.

A member of the SEL Schools family for his entire 12-year teaching career, Mr. Bruce also seeks to impact the lives of students outside of the classroom by serving as the 8th Grade Boys Basketball Coach, Memorial Boys/Girls Cross Country Coach, and Brush Head Girls Track and Field Coach. Pursuing a career in education was a natural choice for Mr. Bruce, who has always possessed a desire to help other people and enjoys interacting with others. As a high school student, he had the opportunity to help his basketball coach in the special education classroom during study hall. The opportunity to develop a relationship with and help students ignited his love and passion to become an Intervention Specialist.

The SEL Schools congratulate Mr. Bruce on his noteworthy accomplishment and thank him for his selfless dedication and support on behalf of our students!
