Ricky Powers Becomes Football Coach at Brush
Ricky Powers, one of Northeast Ohio’s most famed football coaches and players of all-time, was approved as the new head football coach at Charles F. Brush High School by the Board of Education at its recent meeting. The Brush Arcs are truly excited to have Coach Powers aboard to lead our football program into a new generation of interscholastic success. 
 
“We are extremely proud and fortunate to have Coach Powers step in to lead our program,” said SEL Schools Superintendent Dr. Linda N. Reid. “His championship mindset and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly and positively shape our football program into the future.” 
 
Ricky Powers brings an accomplished resume to the Charles F. Brush football program, having served as a successful high school coach and possessing a storied playing career. As a head football coach in the Akron Public Schools for 14 seasons, Coach Powers won 9 league championships while leading the Buchtel football program. His 2010 Buchtel team were OHSAA Division III state runner up.  Coach Powers was named Akron Public Schools’ Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010 as well as the Minority Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2010. Ricky Powers’ highly successful coaching career comes after being one of the most widely acclaimed football standouts to come from Northeast Ohio. He was an All-American high school football player at Akron Buchtel High School, becoming the most touted recruit in the country. After a legendary football career at the University of Michigan, Ricky Powers played for the Baltimore Ravens, the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions in the National Football League. 
 
“Coaching in the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools, with the administrative support, leadership and talent of our student-athletes, is the best kept secret in the entire nation,” said Coach Powers. “I am overwhelmingly excited for this opportunity, I thank Coach Hall for his fortitude during the transition, and I look forward to putting our program on a national map.”
 
On the academic side, Ricky Powers currently serves the SEL Schools as a Youth Development Specialist. Over the years, he has served in various capacities in Family Support and Student Services. His wife, Melissa, is a math teacher at Charles F. Brush High School, and their son Israel is a ninth-grade student at Brush. The Powers Family are residents of the City of Lyndhurst.
