Legends of Chess Tournament

The 3rd annual Legends of Chess Tournament will take place on Wednesday, February 12th in Welser Gymnasium, 4875 Glenlyn Drive and will feature 64 chess players from more than 15 high schools in Northeast Ohio along with well-known local leaders from the African American community. In as much as Charles F. Brush is know for basketball and football, many professionals from other fields are coming to this tournament showcase. The Legends of Chess Tournament will begin at approximately 4 p.m. in Welser Gym. 

In addition to students from other nearby schools, this year’s spotlight with be on African American fraternities at various colleges and academic institutions. These include: Delta Alpha Lambda (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.), Community Service, Cleveland Alumni Chapter (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.), Community Service, Zeta Omega (Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.), Community Service, Zeta Kappa Kappa (Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.) Community Service, Gamma Alpha Sigma (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.), Community Service, Beta Lambda Omega (Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc.), Community Service.

Here to help students celebrate these fraternities will be local dignitaries, including: Attorney James L. Hardiman, Civil Rights Defense, Dr. Ronnie Dunn, Civil Rights Activism & LeBron James Philanthropic, Ted Ginn, Sr., Mentorship, Claude Holland, Mentorship, Dominic Ozanne, Entrepreneurship and Business, Superintendent Donald J. Jolly, II, Educational Leadership, and Randell McSheppad, Civic Leadership.

Please come out to join our students as they celebrate African American fraternities with these special guests. Assistant Principal Curtis E. Jackson II coaches the Charles F. Brush Legacy Chess team and will be on-hand and available for interviews.
