Melissa Thompson - Assistant Superintendent-Student Services and Strategic Partnerships
Melissa Thompson is the Assistant Superintendent-Student Services and Strategic Partnerships and provides leadership in the delivery of support services and educational programs of the highest standards in the areas of English Language Learners, school counseling and school social work, health services, and attendance services. Melissa is responsible for the guidance and supervision of Student Records, Section 504 Plans, Educational Options, Home Education, Homeless Education (McKinney-Vento), Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports, Student Code of Conduct & Handbook, Disciplinary Hearings, Truancy and Residency Verification.

Melissa served in a similar position in another school district, and prior to joining SEL Schools in the fall of 2013, she was the Director of Educational Reform at the Ohio Department of Education. Melissa intentionally chose her career in education. She began her career in Columbus, Ohio at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Division of Domestic Relations and Juvenile Branch. Her classroom experience of instructing juvenile felony offenders in the area of social skills development in a Columbus City Schools and Franklin County Juvenile Court Program eventually led to her position in juvenile court administration where she appeared in court daily to make sentencing recommendations for adjudicated youth for community-based services or incarceration. While working in the court system, she determined education is key to the success of children academically, emotionally, socially, and physically; she made the decision to change careers. Holding a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor in Criminology with a focus in Juvenile Crime & Delinquency, she successfully made the transition from court leadership to educational leadership by completing the First Ring Leadership Academy at Cleveland State University and securing three (3) licenses in educational leadership in the State of Ohio.

Melissa is relentless in her commitment to do what is right for children academically, socially and emotionally. Through her leadership, it is the commitment of this office and team to make conditions right for learning through programs and services that promote safe schools and healthy students & families.
