Brush Alum Provides Outdoor Activity to Preschool

SEL Preschool students were able to have an unforgettable outdoor learning activity thanks to the generosity of Charlotte Mates, a Brush graduate living in Wadsworth. Charlotte is married and has three children named Leah, Hunter, and Ryker. All three children recently volunteered at the district's preschool located at Rowland Elementary. Their journey with chickens started when they considered owning a few, but then found an opportunity to provide a home for 24 chickens and 3 coops. The Mates family have since expanded their flock by taking in more chickens from people who could not care for them, and now have a total of 30 hens and 2 roosters. The children love the chickens and eagerly help care for them while enjoying the fresh eggs they receive. Charlotte and her family brought the chickens to visit the preschoolers at Rowland Elementary School, allowing students to connect with real-world experiences of petting and feeding the chickens. For inquiries, please reach out to Char at [email protected]. Thank you to Charlotte Mates and family for providing our preschool students with this interactive and engaging outdoor learning activity.
