SEL Schools Receives $2,550 Donation from Local Organization

 Donation for Suicide Prevention

The South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools recently received a $2,550.00 donation from Doin’ it for Dee Dee, a local organization dedicated to raising awareness for suicide prevention, named in honor of 1985 Charles F. Brush graduate, Diane “Dee Dee” DiCesare. The funds were raised recently at a charity softball game that was held in September 2023 to commemorate Dee Dee, who deeply loved softball, but who passed away in 2021, by an assembly of her childhood friends. One of those individuals, Becky Gardner, who is an instructor for EXCEL TECC, the district’s career technical consortium, stated in a correspondence with the district, that she “…met Dee Dee on a softball field in South Euclid back in 1974… and continued our friendship through Memorial Junior High, Brush High School, and into adulthood.” Their connection through softball has transformed into a charitable contest, which will be held every year, and which yielded a donation in the amount of $2,550.00 to the SEL Schools. The intention for the donated funds is to “use as the district sees fit to educate students, faculty, and staff on prevention and protective strategies of suicide.” On behalf of everyone in the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools, thank you for your kindness, charity, and remembrance of your friend, to help protect students today.
