Despite a strong effort from Quarterback Godwin Joe, who went 11-23 with 159 and a touchdown, the Arcs could not knock off Chardon, falling to the Hilltoppers by a score of 49-28.

Brush drops to 4-5, and 4-2 in the conference, while Chardon improves to 9-0, and 6-0 in the conference.

Along with the impressive attack through the air, Joe also totaled 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns on eight attempts. This game brings his total to 1000 passing yards and 500 rushing yards on the year, one of three quarterbacks in the area to do so. Christian Wright added 112 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 attempts. This game brings his season total up to 1850 yards.

Brush started off the game hot, getting huge runs from Wright and Joe to continue their opening drive. This leads to a 10-yard Joe rushing touchdown that gave the Arcs a 7-0 lead. However, Chardon would respond with a long drive where they attacked the Arcs on the ground, ending the drive with a 4th and goal QB sneak to make it a 7-7 game.

Heading into the second quarter, Brush seemed poised to respond after had a huge 3rd down pass to Aaron Murphy. However, their momentum would be halted, as the drive ended on a turnover on downs. The Hilltoppers would capitalize quickly, rushing 25 yards to make it 14-7 Chardon.

Brush once again looked to answer a Chardon touchdown, but this time they were halted by a Wright fumble. This led to another long Hilltopper drive that ended with a rushing touchdown. However, the Arcs would waste no time responding, as Joe rushed 56 yards to make it 21-14 game heading into the half. On his quarterback’s game, Coach Fink said “Joe played a good game. I thought his decision-making was solid… he was able have a couple huge runs for us offensively.”

Chardon would pick up where they left off in the first half, running at will, having a long and methodical drive end in a rushing touchdown that made the game 28-14 Hilltoppers. On Chardon’s offense and his defense’s response, Coach Fink said “Chardon runs their system very well, it’s an offense that’s unlike any other in the area…We had to do a better job getting off blocks and making tackles.”

In the fourth quarter, continued their rushing assault, ending another long, methodical drive with a running touchdown. However, the Arcs could get some momentum going after they recovered a Chardon fumble. This led to a Wright rushing touchdown to make it 35-21. However, Chardon struck quick and responded with another rushing touchdown. Brush would not give up, however, as Joe made two huge passes to Tommy Loya, including one that was a 31 yard touchdown to make the score 42-28. However, Chardon put the game out of reach with a 58 yard rushing touchdown to make it 49-28.

Brush’s final game is on the road against the 1-8 Kenston Bombers. On their final opponents, Coach Fink said “Kenston’s an interesting football team… they’re certainly better than a 1-8 team… It’ll certainly be a more competitive game than their records reflects.” Hopefully the Arcs can end their season on a win against the Bombers.
