Dr. James Costanza - Interim Superintendent
On behalf of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst team of Board members, administrators, teachers, certified and non-certified support staff, I would like to welcome you to the South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District and our Web site.
Serving the communities of South Euclid, Lyndhurst and a small portion of Richmond Heights, our First-Ring Suburban school district is located on the East Side of Cleveland, Ohio.  We serve a population of over 36,000 residents and over 4,400 students in our community.  Brush High School is home to more than 1,500 students, while our Jr. High School, Upper Elementary School and three Elementary Schools are learning environments for more than 2,700 students.  We provide support to the students of six (6) private schools within our district boundaries and students attending the countless other private schools outside of our district boundaries.

We are extremely proud of the level of educational and non-educational services that we offer our community. Our operational support of SELREC activities (the Recreation Council made up of the City of South Euclid, the City of Lyndhurst and the South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District) provide opportunities to both the young and old of our community.  Other areas of non-educational support of our community include before and after school student care programs, student summer camp programs, community youth sports programs, and boys and girls clubs.

Brush High School continues to be top notch.  Brush, again has achieved the rating of  “Effective,” from the Ohio Department of Education. Brush is a comprehensive high school offering a wide variety of high quality academic programs, expansive advanced placement and honors courses, technical education programs, special education programs and exemplary extra-curricular programs. The district’s other schools offer a wide variety of high quality academic and special education programs as well.

In an age of accountability and increasing expectations, we are proud of our excellent educational programs, high levels of student achievement and operational effectiveness and efficiencies. Our “Effective” rating on the Ohio District Report Card for nine consecutive years, our music, art and drama programs that annually achieve statewide recognition and our athletic programs that annually compete for conference championships are all examples of the excellence that permeate the fabric of our school community.

In 2009, both Adrian Elementary and Rowland Elementary were identified as a State Superintendent's School of Promise.  This honor was given as a result of our ability to help a high percentage of students attain academic success regardless of race, socio-economic status or learning ability. In 2007 Brush High School was recognized by the Schott foundation for Public Policy and by the Ohio Department of Education as one of only three schools in the nation for its work in accelerating the success and high school graduation of African American male students. In 2004, SE-L Schools received the Ohio Award for Excellence. This outstanding level of recognition is earned by organizations throughout Ohio for demonstrating a serious commitment to excellence and a process for continuous improvement.

Thank you for visiting our web site!

James Costanza, Ed.D.
