Author Ji-li Jiang visits Brush High School
On Wednesday, May 8th, Charles F. Brush High School welcomed Ji-li Jiang, author of Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution. Jiang spoke to a group of about 250 students from Memorial Junior High School and Brush High School. The author was treated to a luncheon hosted by students from Hui-Ling Haldeman's Advanced Chinese class. Jiang shared images and stories about her difficult childhood experiences under Chairman Mao's regime.  Jiang also shared her life since moving to the United States in 1984. In addition to Red Scarf girl, Jiang has authored several children's books. She followed her talk with a book sale and signing. Jiang currently lives in the San Francisco Bay area. She was brought to Cleveland by the group Facing History and Ourselves, an organization dedicated to encouraging reflection on the historical consequences of bigotry, injustice and hatred.
