Greenview Black History Month Assembly

Assembly at Greenview

Greenview Campus students and staff proudly celebrated the school’s 2nd Annual Divine 9 Black History Month Assembly on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Fourth and fifth grade students attended the first morning session and were followed immediately afterwards by the sixth-grade class. The program centered on the legacy and contributions of the Divine 9, a group of nine historical African American sororities and fraternities. Several Greenview and district staff members who hold membership in one of the Divine 9 Greek organizations spoke to the students about their experience and the overall commitment of each chapter to uplifting the lives of individuals and the community through scholarship, service, citizenship, and other core values.

Students and staff enjoyed a series of Step Show performances by representatives from several Divine 9 Greek organizations. Each performance was announced by Ahmaad Crump, In-Arena Host for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Greenview students and staff also had the chance to join in the fun and show off their dance moves!

The assembly also featured a spirited series of Reader’s Theater performances by members of the National Elementary Honor Society and Greenview Student Council. The student groups recited a poem by Amanda Gorman for the first session which was followed by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech for the sixth graders.

A special thank you to all SEL staff members and special guests for making this engaging and impactful Black History Month celebration possible!
