Former Brush Parent Conducts Workshop with AP Photography Students

Former Brush parent and district resident Greg Martin recently conducted a workshop with AP Photography students at Brush HS on Wednesday, October 8th. The workshop focused on the history and process of Collodion wet plate printing, an earlier photographic process that was used extensively during the Civil War era, to capture images from the conflict, in addition to portraits and landscapes. Mr. Martin presented photographs he created using the wet plate process and also took portraits with the students. Collodion wet plate printing involves coating a metal plate or piece of glass with photo sensitive material, and exposing the image while it is still wet. Exposing the image takes time, as the group picture took nearly twenty seconds to complete!

Mr. Martin was invited to conduct the workshop by Brush photography instructor Hadley Conner. Ms. Conner and Mr. Martin graduated together from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and both currently serve on the advisory board of The Cleveland Print Room. Mr. Martin’s son, Chris, is a recent Brush graduate and is currently attending the Cleveland Institute of Art.

The South Euclid-Lyndhurst Schools would like to thank Mr. Martin for sharing his knowledge and passion for photography with our students.
