Rowland Elementary Celebrates Black History Month

The Djapo Cultural Arts Institute under the direction of Talise Campbell recently performed dances from Liberia and Guinea for students at Rowland Elementary School, in honor of Black History Month. This talented group of individuals gave two performances as a school wide incentive for the student body having reached 1,000 compliments in its “Compliment Program” along with recognition and celebration of February being Black History Month. Students experienced firsthand the art of African storytelling in a creative and expressive live demonstration. Students learned the names of instruments, African traditions expressed in the spoken word, song, and dance, and also were able to actively participate in the performance at several points. Rowland Elementary School would like to thank The Djapo Cultural Arts Institue for taking the time to perform for our students.
