School Counselors and School Social Workers

School Counselors and School Social Workers report directly to the building principals; however, Student Services provides administrative oversight, strategic direction, and district focus.

School Counselors follow the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model framework in the implementation of the comprehensive school counseling program in South Euclid Lyndhurst (SEL) Schools. School Counselors help students acquire study and test-taking skills, use educational information, and set educational goals. They help students develop healthy self-concepts, learn to respect diverse cultures, and resolve conflicts. School Counselors help students understand and apply interests and aptitudes, use career information, and set career goals. As they counsel students individually and in groups, counselors often consult with parents and teachers to develop the supportive network needed to help students.

School Social Workers are licensed, trained mental health professionals, employed by the SEL school district, with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person's social, emotional, and life adjustment to school and/or society. School Social Workers work closely with School Counselors and are the link between the home, school, and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.

School-based and community-based assistance is provided to children and families confronting challenges that compromise health, safety, social adjustment, or other circumstances that jeopardize student learning or family functioning. South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools works in partnership with a host of mental and behavioral health providers accepting Medicaid and private insurance. Additionally, various mentorship programs and faith-based providers support students and families.
