Adrian Scholars Meet Newest Member of South Euclid K-9 Unit
A dozen student members of the Adrian Scholars club recently had the opportunity to spend time with South Euclid Patrol Officer Michael Fink, and meet his newest K-9 partner, Kolbe. The visit took place after school on Thursday, March 13th. Officer Mike, as he is affectionately known by the students, is a frequent visitor to the group and is always accompanied by his K-9 partner. After the recent passing of K-9 Officer Rex, the students were eager to meet the newest member of the South Euclid K-9 Unit, K-9 Officer Kolbe. During the visit, Officer Mike showed the students how K-9 Officer Kolbe locates dangerous or illegal substances hidden within containers by his strong sense of smell. The students also had the opportunity to try on different pieces of police gear, including a helmet and protective vest. To view footage of Officer Mike’s most recent visit, click here.

Adrian Scholars is an after school program for third grade boys, and is designed to “educate, inspire and empower students to be high achieving, contributing members of a global society.” The South-Euclid Lyndhurst Schools wish to thank Officer Michael Fink for his continued involvement with the students at Adrian Elementary.

Rowland Elementary Hosts PTA Family Reading Experience
Students from Rowland Elementary and their families had the special opportunity to participate in a PTA Family Reading Experience on Thursday, March 13th, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM in the Rowland gym and library. The free event was attended by over fifteen students with families, and featured six different activities which promoted important reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, phonics and vocabulary. In addition, eight National Elementary Honors Society students from Greenview Upper Elementary volunteered their time to help younger students complete each activity. All library activities featured ten Amazon Kindle Readers which were given to Rowland through a generous grant obtained by the Rowland PTA. Students and their families also had the opportunity to enjoy pizza and other refreshments.

The PTA Family Reading Experience is a national program created in partnership with Amazon Kindle, and designed to provide parents and other family members, effective strategies to promote their child’s reading comprehension and motivation. A big THANK-YOU to the Rowland PTA for helping to make this innovative and meaningful program possible!
