Physical well-being and motor development are an essential part of child development. As part of Ohio’s Early Learning Standards, students are required to be able to increase their ability to use large and small muscles to produce movements, to touch, grasp and manipulate objects, and to engage in physical activity. Through gross motor activities, students are also able to enhance their communication skills, social-emotional development and self-help skills. These skills and behaviors play an important role in children’s physical well-being and set children on a path leading toward a healthy lifestyle. As a result, the SEL Preschool has been working in collaboration with Fun and Function to design a new motor room that incorporates a combination of new and used equipment to meet the needs of our youngest learners. Some of our new features include a ball pit, indoor slide and a rock-climbing wall. Our students LOVE the new motor room!!
The Ohio PTA, through the National PTA, holds an annual cultural arts program, Reflections. Children in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit original works of art in any of six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. The theme this year was "Heroes Around Me". Students were encouraged to create work with this theme in mind. Preschool students in the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools now have access to new playground equipment thanks to a recent grant awarded to the District by The Legacy Village Lyndhurst Community Fund! The SEL Preschool is located at Rowland Elementary and serves students of all ability levels, including those with special needs. During the equipment selection process, the District took steps to ensure that students with special needs would have increased access to playground equipment that supports the development of important motor skills. The SEL Schools would like to thank The Legacy Village Lyndhurst Community Fund for making the Preschool playground a better place for students to grow, develop and learn!
