SEL Gifted Programming & Services

Last week over 175 parents were invited and approximately 30-35 participated in a presentation and discussion covering our Gifted Programming and Services.  Overwhelming, the parents expressed their pleasure with the improvements we have made throughout the course of the school year and appeared equally pleased about some of our proposed changes for next year.  SEL continues to strive to improve our SEL Gifted Programming and Services.  (click "read more" for more info)

Rowland Elementary Participates in Time Honored Awards Program

During the month of April, Ms. April Buchanan, a third grade teacher at Rowland Elementary School, invited a very special guest into her class, as a way of promoting literacy and racial diversity, who offered students a fun-filled and meaningful experience. Ryan Lind, a professor at Kent State University, spent five full weeks with these SEL students introducing them to Anisfield-Wolf winning poets such as Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks. This was all made possible by the Cleveland Foundation, who generously permitted Mr. Lind to attend Ms. Buchanan’s classes, to promote the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which is an 80-year old prize for the best books dealing with race and diversity. Students were able to write, submit and recite their own poems in front of their entire class. Thank you to the Cleveland Foundation and to Professor Lind for helping to expand the horizons for our elementary students.
