Fire Prevention Week

In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, which officially took place beginning on Monday, October 15, 2018, elementary students in the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools were incentivized to learn extra safety protocols by the South Euclid Fire Department. Winners of the Adrian Elementary School coloring contest were awarded earlier in the week with a pizza party and one fortunate student, Lawyer Hale, won a brand new bicycle, courtesy of Wal Mart. The pizza party and bike contest winner were selected based upon a coloring contest that was judged by the South Euclid Fire Department. The Top 20 student artists who colored pictures based upon fire prevention earned pizza and soda, along with an informative presentation by Scott Sebastian, the City of South Euclid’s Fire Inspector. Among the Top 20 pictures, the very best was selected to win the brand new bicycle. Among the lessons that were reinforced were having a safety plan for your home and other valuable reminders. The winners at Rowland Elementary School will be rewarded in the near future as well. Thank you to the City of South Euclid Fire Department for incentivizing our students, imparting important reminders and remaining true community partners.

SEL Pre-School Program Receives 5-Star Rating

SEL Pre-School Program Receives 5-Star Rating

The SEL Pre-School program was recently awarded a 5-Star Rating, the highest rating available, by Ohio’s Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) program. The noteworthy distinction demonstrates the high quality of education provided by the district’s Pre-School program and places it within a select group of statewide early learning programs. The SUTQ program is overseen by a cross-agency team from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), and evaluates the performance of early learning programs across four categories, including learning and development, administrative and leadership practices, family and community partnerships, and staff qualifications and professional development. The Pre-School Program serves children ages 3-5 years and provides high-quality educational programming four days per week. Each school day includes two separate sessions running 2.5 hours in length. For students with more intense special needs, one 5-hour session is provided five days per week. For more information about the SEL Pre-School Program, please contact the district at 216-691-2026.

Community Member Kevin James Builds Mobile Whiteboards for Preschool Classroom

SEL Preschool students and teachers at Rowland Elementary have the opportunity to utilize mobile whiteboards in their classroom thanks to the generosity of community member Kevin James.  The owner of James Construction, Mr. James spent time recently constructing and assembling mobile whiteboards which provide many classroom benefits, such as acting as a natural barrier within the classroom to differentiate specific areas, as well as creating additional white board space for learning and instruction.  The mobile whiteboards also provide an excellent place for preschool students to view picture schedules, classroom rules and procedures.  The South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools thank Mr. Kevin James for partnering with the District in support of our students!
